Biography
Stephen Ellis is an award-winning, multidisciplinary actor, writer, and producer. A native of Fort Worth, Texas, Stephen studied at the National Theater Institute and graduated from Kenyon College, where he won the Paul Newman Award for Acting.
Notable stage productions include the Obie-winning production of The Coward at Lincoln Center (with Jeremy Strong), Thinner Than Water (LAByrinth), Different Words for the Same Thing (Center Theater Group), and Going to a Place Where You Already Are (South Coast Repertory).
His film debut came in the Dreamworks comedy Delivery Man (opposite Vince Vaughn). Recent screen work includes Abbott Elementary, You’re The Worst, The Coen Brothers’ Hail Caesar! (with George Clooney), and The Lears (opposite Bruce Dern). In 2016, he starred in the explosive and controversial Sundance and SXSW short film A Reasonable Request. His performance earned him two Best Actor Awards, and the film continues to appear on “best short films of all time” lists worldwide.
Stephen co-produced the Grand Prize-winning feature film As Far As the Eye Can See (Lone Star Film Festival) and produced and starred in the buzzworthy short film The Curse (with Jimmi Simpson and Ali Ahn). He is currently writing and developing a slate of projects for TV and film based on historically relevant IP, including Barney Hoskyns’ “Small Town Talk,” Jon Wilkman’s “Floodpath: The Deadliest Disaster of the 20th Century,” and Rachel Nuwer’s viral BBC article “How a Dose of MDMA Transformed a White Supremacist.”
